GloMiNe "Preservation of microbial diversity” by Microbiota Vault and MVIF

Microbiome Virtual International Forum

Microbial ecosystems underpin life on Earth, yet they are increasingly imperiled by human activities, including unsustainable agricultural practices and overuse of antibiotics. These disturbances disrupt microbial networks essential for environmental stability, biodiversity, and animal and human health, contributing to the global rise of chronic diseases and ecosystem degradation. Equitable approaches for the preservation of microbial diversity are urgently needed.

This 5th Global Microbiome Network symposium (GloMiNe 2025) focuses on the challenges and ways ahead. In partnership with the Microbiome Virtual International Forum (MVIF), the Microbiota Vault initiative assembles a community of experts from all over the world to discuss and promote the importance of conservation efforts on microbial biodiversity.

The Topic of this year’s event is "Preservation of microbial diversity”, and will be live in both Atlantic and Pacific time zones.

The Atlantic event will be live on 9th September 2025, from 12:30PM to 3:30PM UTC (see what time it is where you are here and add to your calendar here ).

The Pacific event will be live on 11th September 2025, from 00:30AM to 3:30AM UTC (see what time and date it is where you are here and add to your calendar here ).

About the Microbiome Virtual International Forum (MVIF)

The mission of MVIF is to advance the field of microbiome research by providing a more convenient, accessible, and globally inclusive platform for the dissemination of high-quality research and scientific networking. We are committed to promoting diversity of gender, race/ethnicity, and geography, and to actively engaging and promoting students and early-career researchers and scientists. We facilitate collaborations and knowledge exchange in a free and open-access setting with rigorous scientific and evidence-based standards.

MVIF is a non-profit association registered in Italy. If you'd like to support MVIF, you can learn more on our Support MVIF page .

Thanks to MVIF's non-commercial partners the Seerave Foundation and CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy for their support.

About the Microbiota Vault

The Microbiota Vault is a not-for-profit organization that operates as a public charity with the primary mission to preserve microbial biodiversity globally on behalf of local collections. Analogously to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, deposited specimens provide a mirror of the natural biodiversity at a global scale from human-associated and environmental microbiota. The Microbiota Vault acts at the request and on behalf of sovereign depositors worldwide, who have local collections, to preserve backup copies of specimens of human or environmental origin. Depositors retain full control over the specimens they deposit in the Microbiota Vault.
