Women and girls in the Global South are impacted disproportionately by climate change and natural disasters because they face heightened risks in society due to social norms and inequalities. Despite often being the hardest hit, they are frequently excluded from decision-making, leaving them more vulnerable. Yet, they possess incredible resilience and the capacity to lead environmental preservation efforts. Understanding the challenges they face and including the voices of women and girls is essential for developing targeted and tailored interventions that reduce the impact of natural disruptions on women and girls, and ensuring their safety and well-being. This panel discussion explores these issues and highlights best practice in designing gender responsive disaster risk reduction strategies and policies.
