The interplay between women's health, sport, and physical activity is essential for fostering healthier communities and promoting gender equity. Despite the recognized benefits of an active lifestyle, women often face unique barriers that impede their participation in sports and physical activities. This special collection aims to gather innovative research, critical reviews, and case studies that explore the multifaceted relationship between women's health and their engagement in sport and physical activity. By showcasing diverse perspectives, this collection will contribute to a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this domain.

This presentation explores the physiological aspects of physical activity as they pertain to women's health, emphasizing the complex interplay between exercise and female biological processes. Regular physical activity is effective on regulating hormonal balance, enhancing cardiovascular health, and improving metabolic function, which are critical for women's overall well-being. Key benefits include the reduction of menstrual discomfort, alleviation of symptoms associated with menopause, improvement of maternal and fetus or new born health and lowering the risks of osteoporosis and chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Physiological changes due to physical activity is positively associated with mental health, reducing anxiety, depression, and stress levels while promoting cognitive function. Understanding these physiological responses can empower women to tailor their fitness regimens to optimize health outcomes across various life stages. Through introducing the unique physiological needs and challenges faced by women, this presentation underscores the importance of personalized exercise programs in fostering lifelong health and wellness for women, ultimately contributing to improved quality of life and longevity.

Psychological aspects of physical activity related to women's health Rosa López de D’Amico & Alessandro D’Amico

The benefits of the practice of physical activity have been indicated in the literature and in the last 20 years there has been more awareness and promotion of physical activity towards women. However, the psychological benefits were not much highlighted until since the Tokyo Olympic Games it became more obvious as some well-known athletes mentioned the relevance of the psychological support. The pandemic COVID 2020 was also an awakening towards many and particularly to governments who became aware of the need of physical activity and psychological support to the population. This talk will allow us to share some views about this topic.
