Sustainable aviation research at Oxford
Peter Ireland is Head of the Oxford Thermofluids Institute and has worked in the science of convective heat transfer and cooling since his doctorate - contributing to the technology used in jet engines, fusion tokamaks, rockets and F1 cars. His research has focussed on the use of innovative experiments and instrumentation that make the crucial heat transfer mechanisms discoverable, at the extremely hostile conditions that exist at component surfaces. The techniques that he and his team have developed have been adopted by many manufacturers, because they provide measurements with great detail thus enhancing the understanding of the underlying flow phenomena.
His talk will focus on ongoing research at the Oxford Thermofluids Institute that is contributing to making aviation sustainable
