Driving Transformation: Tax Strategies for Electrifying Light-Duty Transportation
Roberta Mann
University of Canterbury and University of Oregon
As noted by the International Energy Agency, taxation is a necessary component of strategies to increase adoption of electric vehicle (EV) technology. In the United States, tax credits have encouraged purchase of EVs since 2009. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 refined and targeted EV tax credits. The article focuses on this evolving tax policy, addressing continuing challenges and providing recommendations for meeting those challenges, including comparing strategies from other countries.
