Abstract
Speaker
Modelling fracture with cohesive laws and open issues
Stergios Goutianos
Norwegian University of Science and Technology
The cohesive laws will be presented as a tool for fracture modeling, with a specific emphasis on composite structures. The presentation will commence with an overview of the methodology to measure cohesive laws in practice, followed by discussion on how these experimental data can be integrated into a finite element code. Then examples illustrating the application of cohesive zone modeling to enhance fracture resistance in composites and promote crack stability will be presented. Conclusively, the presentation will address ongoing challenges and open issues related to the modeling of mixed-mode fracture using cohesive laws.
