Nano Engineered Fiber reinforced composites for structural applications
Prof. Ramachandran Velmurugan FIE, FAeSI
Fiber reinforced composites are widely used in structural applications, especially in aerospace, automotive and other transport sectors because of the flexibility in tailoring its properties for the required applications. Nano materials are the class of materials which can enhance the different matrix properties and can be exploited for wide applications in engineering applications. One of our research activity is to enhance the matrix properties for its mechanical, thermal and other functional properties and study the performance of fiber reinforced composites which are filled with nano fillers. The presentation covers the topics on the influence of nano fillers on the base material and on fiber reinforced composites for extreme load conditions, which include, quasi-static to high strain rate conditions, impact resistant structures, shape memory polymer composites, structural crashworthiness, etc
