Evaluating sheep as a large animal model in hearing & balance research

Several years ago, we began studying sheep samples with the help of other researchers. To locate the cochlea in a sheep skull, we had to split the skull in half. The cochlea is embedded within the skull, making it difficult to access. My goal was to compare the sheep and human cochlea, highlighting their similarities in size. Sheep are now being recognized as a valuable animal model in hearing research, with several groups focusing on this area.
