Towards next generation JPEG standards

I want to finish by telling you a little bit about a new project that has started in the JP Committee called JA I. The idea is that artificial intelligence, particularly auto encoders, is being utilized in various applications. In fact, recent literature has demonstrated that auto encoders can be used for compression, resulting in highly efficient compression techniques. When the JP Committee learned about this, they decided to give it a try. However, they realized that relying solely on offsite tests would not suffice, so they decided to conduct their own exercise. This exploration into the use and understanding of learning-based image compression compared to conventional methods began over two years ago in January 2019 within the JF Committee.
