Structural power composites - the route to more electric aircraft

Prof Emile S Greenhalgh
Question to Emile: Looking at aerospace and space structures, EMC and lightning strike is very important, has been been assessed for your ideas on Power Composites for instrumentation boxes or primary structures?
It isn't something we've looked at yet, but the technology isn't mature enough yet. But we'd anticipate the structural power material would be hybridised with conventional composite being on the exterior, so that may help address lightning strike aspects. It's on the list of things to do.
Is there a significant fire risk if the structure is pierced?
Q) What is the most immediate problem with structural power materials that is being researched and solved right now?
